Sustainable energy for a busy life
Midday hits, and you reach for another coffee to shake off the sluggishness. Meetings, deadlines, errands, and your energy will not cooperate. Familiar?
Here is how to build steadier energy without leaning entirely on caffeine and sugar.
1. Hydration first
Before the caffeine, try water. Mild dehydration is a common and easily missed cause of feeling tired and unfocused. Start the day with a large glass and keep a bottle within reach as a prompt. A slice of lemon or cucumber makes it easier to keep up.
2. Breakfast without the sugar spike
What you eat matters as much as whether you eat. Refined carbs and sugar give a quick lift followed by a dip that has you hunting for snacks well before lunch. Eggs, Greek yoghurt, or a smoothie with fruit and nuts hold up far better through the morning.
3. Move to energise, not exhaust
Exercise is the last thing you feel like doing when you are tired, and one of the better answers to it. A brisk ten minute walk does real work. Short bursts through the day, stretching at your desk or walking at lunch, beat one exhausting session.
4. Mini meditation
You do not need an hour. Five to ten minutes of mindful breathing during a break resets the mind. If you are feeling overwhelmed, close your eyes and focus on slow breaths for a few minutes.
5. Snack with intent
Crisps and chocolate are quick and leave you flatter than before. Aim for a mix of protein, fat and complex carbs:
- Nuts and seeds
- Apple slices with peanut butter
- Hummus with vegetables
6. Start with sleep
Daytime energy is mostly decided the night before. If you are running on six hours, no amount of snack strategy will fix the afternoon. Start here.
